Why depressed people are misinterpreted as “lazy“?

Being lazy is an attribute unappreciated by many. it's looked upon as a negative personality and should give people the incorrect impression, leading them to guage you unnecessarily.

However, there's a skinny line between being lazy and being depressed. While many factors can cause depression, depression itself can cause a dent during a person's ability to maneuver on in life. It can deduct an individual's passion, make them disinterested in life, and also may trigger laziness in them.
That being said, it's always necessary to verify the source of an individual's slothful behavior. While it is easy to ascertain an individual as idle and indolent, it's as difficult to know their side of the story, which is why there are things that folks with depression usually do or don't do which makes them appear lazy.

Being low on energy and having an inactive social life
People who are lazy are low on energy and don't socialize with tons of individuals. They isolate themselves and like being alone than being around people. While relations, loved ones may even see it as laziness or negligence, the desire to remain alone and low on life may be a classic symptom of depression too. So, before judging an individual as someone who is lazy, attempt to detect the explanation for their withdrawal.

Taking frequent breaks in between
People who are depressed prefer resting for long hours or rather need it to refresh and rejuvenate. They find it extremely difficult to urge out of bed and take frequent breaks in between work. Unlike an undisturbed mind, a troubled person feels more exhausted and tired, given the extra anxiety and stress they are going through in every walk of life. Therefore, if someone you recognize takes occasional breaks and hides away don't immediately judge them for it.

Incomplete chores and unfinished business
In a work environment, the lack to satisfy objectives and goals is often understood as unprofessional and inefficient. Similarly, within the familial realm and around friends, incomplete chores and negligent work behavior are often seen as laziness. However, what must be understood is that sometimes it is often a symbol of depression. Severe depression may sometimes deprive people of the keenness for any quiet work. It can deduct an individual's zeal and should make them seem lazy.
That said, aside from their incomplete chores, attempt to analyze their state of mind.

Unhealthy eating habits
Just because someone isn't eating, cooking or has an abnormal eating pattern, doesn't suggest they're ignorant or lazy. It is often a possible sign of depression, which frequently gets overlooked. Depression can make an individual eat an excessive amount or too little. While overeating becomes difficult for a depressed person to deal with their situation, the entire opposite i.e. not eating in the least can occur when their depression takes a toll on their appetite and makes eating a task.

Neglecting one's appearance and personal hygiene
Self-care is extremely important in our day-to-day lives. However, some people might not be within the right mind to treat themselves with care and love. Often an individual who is unaware of their personal hygiene and negligent of their appearance may come off as someone lazy and sluggish. However, it's going to be Depression triggering it all. Until and unless an individual is proud of him- or herself, there's no way they'll care about how they appear to others. They'll probably be more intertwined in their thoughts.
